Goth rock, new wave, or pop in it's purest form.Whatever the classification, The Cure helped shaped music in the 1980's. Througout their over thirty years in existence, frontman Robert Smith and Co. were considered to be strictly a "Singles band".But what great singles they were. The English group first charted in the U.S with "In between Days" from the record The Head on The Door. Their biggest hit was 1989's "Lovesong" from the ambitious Disintegration, which peaked at #2.
The majority of The Cure's appeal was that they were wholly original but still had mainstream sensibilities. Songs like the playful "Boys Don't Cry" and the piano based "Just Like Heaven" could easily be spun on top 40 playlists alongside Madonna and Cyndi Lauper. While songs like the epic eight minute title track to Disintegration showcased the band's uncanny talent and willingness to look outside the box. Unlike many of their peers The Cure continue to make original music, releasing 4:13 Dream in late 2008.
